This name originates from Bulgaria. It is part of the Bulgaria Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
The rocky island in the Meade group off the NW extremity of Greenwich Island in the South Shetland Islands extending 270 m in SW-NE direction and 60 m wide. Situated 1.26 km W by N of Duff Point, 120 m NE of Cave Island and 3.6 km SE of Pyramid Island. British mapping in 1968 and Bulgarian mapping in 2009. Named after the settlement of Pisanitsa in Southern Bulgaria.
